Isaiah 14:12 KJV [12] How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Ezekiel 28:12-14 KJV [12] Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. [13] Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. [14] Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

There is very little said in the scripture regarding Lucifer, his appearance in the Garden of Eden and his fall, which resulted in his becoming Satan. In this article I will present one theory and in the next article I will outline the other prominent theory. I will cover both theories because there are credible biblical clues for them both.

Though Lucifer should never be given undue prominence, his role as anointed cherub, fallen angel, adversary, and tempter of mankind must be clearly understood so as to ensure that he is given NO PLACE. Whenever studying Lucifer or any of his other names or titles, it is important to remember that though some of his activities continue on earth temporarily, he has already been defeated by Jesus Christ at Calvary which was demonstrated through Jesus’ resurrection from the dead! Amen.

Lucifer, whose name as such appears in scripture only in Isaiah 14, means “light bearer” or “shining one.” His brightness was apparently so brilliant he is also called “son of the morning” meaning his brightness had all of the qualities of the dazzling morning sunrise. Ezekiel adds further detail to this enigmatic character named Lucifer. God revealed to the prophet Ezekiel in a vision that “the anointed cherub” [an angel], was created to cover, protect, defend, and/or “figuratively” to fence in, the Garden of Eden. Therefore, from a literal interpretation of the text that God gave the assignment of guarding the garden to the anointed cherub who then, was dispatched from the beautiful Holy Mountain of the Almighty arrayed with stones of fire. When God selected which of the cherubim would go, He selected the best one, full of wisdom, perfect in beauty, covered in every precious jewel and equipped with inner pipes/instrumentation for setting the atmosphere on all occasions. Originally it can be concluded from the text, Lucifer was in the Garden of Eden by God’s command, for the purpose of ministering to Adam and Eve.

Hebrews 1:13-14 KJV [13] But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? [14] Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Lucifer was anointed to perfectly protect and defend God’s garden, to prepare the perfect atmosphere for the man and his wife to know God as well as each other. And then…
