Together They Fall
Together They Fall
Author: Pastor Thomas G. Wilson
April 30, 2020
Isaiah 54:14-15 KJV
14
In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
15
Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
Anthropomorphism
is the attribution of human characteristics, emotions, and
behaviors
to animals or other
non-human things
(including objects, plants,
and
supernatural beings). Some common examples of
anthropomorphisms
are Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and The Little Engine that Could. In verse 15 of the passage above Isaiah writes about oppression, fear and terror with language that attribute human characteristics to them… “surely they shall gather together”. It is as if they are three powerful individuals who form a league to bring fierce anxiety and devastation to the people of God. Then God as He is known to do brings light to the party, He says first of all know that this is “…
not by Me
”. In other words, this is not a part of my agenda for you. God wants us to know the source of the attack. He wants to make clear that you never have to consider Him as a suspect. He doesn’t use these forces as instructors, correctors or punishers. The three strategies are combinations used by the devil. Fear, terror and oppression combined can be described as the planned use of fear as a weapon to render the victim helpless, unable to stand against oppression. This strategy however, is only effective against those who have no relationship with the Almighty. Isaiah said they will surely gather together but they shall just as surely
fall.
Therefore any perceived threat is deception, intended to use fear to make us susceptible to oppression. However if you resist the thought of an imposing threat, the devil will flee from you! To flee means to run away in stark
terror
! Whoa…the tables have turned…the stronghold has fallen!
Please note that counterterrorism is required in preparation and response to terrorist attacks.
YOU MUST
RESIST!
It sounds easy peasy right? The answer is yes and no. Fear, the biggest and most successful strategy of terrorists has worked since the fall of man. In answering God the first thing Adam said after the fall is ‘I was afraid.’ Verse 14 above says that you’ll be far from oppression because you DO NOT FEAR. Numerous times in the scripture men and women of God have been told ‘fear not’ because visible evidence appears to justify fear’s right to be there. God told Joshua more than once to be of ‘good courage.’ Psalms 23 says the Lord is my shepherd…no matter what I go through… I shall not fear. Sheep trust their shepherds to provide, protect, and lead. God, who is the shepherd of all shepherds, who knows all, and is almighty, can handle any situation. As we keep our minds constantly upon Him, the One who promised to keep you in perfect peace. Without fear, oppression and terror have no place. And if they have no place, they have no power.
